On Christmas Eve, Maries godfather, Drosselmeyer, gives her a strange toy: a wooden nutcracker carved in the shape of a little man. At midnight, when the celebrations are over, all the toys magically come to life. The nutcracker grows to human size and takes charge of the tin soldiers, flying to the rescue of Marie, who is threatened by the Mouse King and his mouse army. Based on E. Hoffmanns story, The Nutcracker is one of the greatest classics in the world. With iconic music by Tchaikovsky, and enchanting sets and costumes, this beautiful tale explores the universal themes of love, power and evil. This choreographic version, created for the Bolshoi by Yuri Grigorovich, is full of romanticism and philosophical reflections on ideal love. Masterfully interpreted by the Bolshoi dancers, it will enchant the whole family for the festive season, proving that one is never too young or too old to be swept away by The Nutcracker.

The plot is as crazy as it is convincing. The surreal action takes place in an increasingly fantastical world, leaving the cozy domesticity of Clara's parent' house far behind. As soon as the audience adapts to one new world, another follows swiftly on as transformation follows transformation. The magician Drosselmeyer sets out to find a young girl who can break the curse imposed by the Mouse King on his nephew Hans-Peter, and restore him to human form. Mice and toys stage a pitched battle. Drosselmeyer sends Clara and Hans-Peter to the Land of the Snow and then to the Kingdom of Sweets where they meet the Sugar Plum Fairy and her prince. I just watched a guy dressed up as a nutcracker pick up a shorter guy dressed as a mouse and then dance around with a sword Yes. Art of Perfection.
I love the way they do the switch from the young dancers to Somova and Shklyerov. Shklyerov is absolutely flawless. Somova has her good points but in arabesque her working leg always seems to be out to the side rather than right behind her. Gorgeous penchee and back attitude, though. Really love the first act in this production. Tempi in second act often slow enough to feel dragged. I guess that was a Sugar Plum pas de six? Prefer it as a pdd and they made a really odd cut in the music in the woman's solo. Video editing is in many places quite good but there are places you want to smack the video editor upside the head. Seeing a ballerina in motion from her tutu skirt up is not what you care about if you're a dance enthusiast! But overall I do like this production, especially the way the dancing in the first act is taylored.

Audience Reviews Seating Chart The Fox Theatre Reviews Review: Atlanta Ballets new “Nutcracker” captivates with layered effects, simple story Cynthia Bond Perry, ArtsATL, 2018. 12. 11 On stage, the real and fantastical mingled with everyday things — an armchair and a glass-front cabinet, or a puppet theater and its marionettes that suddenly grew tenfold then collapsed into nothing just as quickly. In this storybook world, Maries living room turned surreal, throwing her environment off-kilter. The mysterious uncle or godfather Drosselmeier — whom Nikolas Gaifullin portrayed with a youngish, gentlemanly grace — took a central role. He orchestrated the transformation of everything around Marie, including a wooden-headed Nutcracker that turned into a handsome prince. In both of the pas de deux with Marie and the Prince, Possokhovs choreography looped and dove around the space like a roving, dream-like imagination, liberated from the constraints of rational thought and physicalized. Within the nucleus of their duets, their movement stirred and whirled, then soared, dipped and opened outward toward the audience. Igarashi projected warmth and vivacity. “The Nutcracker” Embraces High Tech in Atlanta Laura Jacobs, Vanity Fair, 2018. 11. 26 Lest anyone think that a high-tech approach is inappropriate for this classic, be reminded that at its premiere in 1892, Tchaikovskys fantasy ballet left Russian critics perplexed. His colleague Mikhail Ivanov, however, saw that with this brilliant score, ballet as a medium had “started out along a completely different path from before. ” So “The Nutcracker” itself was progressive. That said, Possokhov is following the traditional American story line as laid out by the Christensen brothers in San Francisco (1944) and George Balanchine in New York (1954) though his iteration will be more mystical, celestial, and spooky. Atlanta Ballet enchants and stuns in new ‘Nutcracker Allison Gupton, Dance Informa, 2018. 09 A talented team of artists and designers assembled over the past two years to create an incredibly magical theatrical experience. The 3. 7 million production promises to enhance the dance with projected imagery and other state-of-the-art technological effects. “As technology moves on, artists develop new skills. Technology inspires creatives to explore new borders of their imagination onstage. Yuri is a master of this. The projections and visual enhancements will only help him bring the dancers up front, ” says Nedvigin. The Atlanta Ballet Presents “The Nutcracker” at Fox Theatre O'Brian Gunn, GA Voice, 2018. 20 When you hear mention of “The Nutcracker, ” your mind may instantly conjure up the new “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” movie. The Nutcracker from Atlanta Ballet gets new-age makeover in its 24th year Natisha Lance, 11Alive, 2018. 21 Its a challenge Atlanta Ballet dancer Emily Carrico, who plays Marie in the production, said the dancers are up for. “The scale of everything in this theater and the choreography is just out of this world, ” she said. “It's like nothing Ive ever experienced before, and pretty much, I would say, it's safe to say any dancer in the company has danced before. ” Video Yuri Possokhov's "The Nutcracker" 2018, Atlanta Ballet Atlanta Ballet's The Nutcracker: Past Present and Future The Nutcracker 2018 Tickets, Atlanta Ballet Behind the Scenes of "The Nutcracker" 2018, Atlanta Ballet Yuri Possokhov's "The Nutcracker" at Fox Theatre 2018, Atlanta Ballet Yuri Possokhov's "The Nutcracker. Hoffmann's tale "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. The ballet was first presented to the Russian public in 1892, and the premiere was at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg. The libretto was choreographed by Marius Petipa, though several months before the premiere an illness got in the way of Marius finishing and his best assistant, Lev Ivanov, was brought in to finish the piece. The ballet starred Sergei Legat as the Nutcracker Prince and Timofey Stukolkin as Drosselmeyer. Interesting enough, the children's roles were performed by students of the Imperial Ballet School of Saint Petersburg, and not by adults. Unfortunately, the premiere was not a success. It was only in the early 20th century that after several reworks did this ballet start to become popular. At the beginning of the First World War the plot was russified, and the main heroine was renamed Masha. Her brother, Fritz, kept his name because he was deemed as a negative character. This tradition survives to this day. The plot is based on two children - Marie and Fritz who anxiously await Christmas (New Year's) presents. One of the last guests to arrive is Drosselmeyer, Marie's and Fritz's godfather. Drosselmeyer is mysterious, and has the ability to make toys come alive. Drosselmeyer gifts Marie The Nutcracker, but Fritz quickly damages the new toy. Night sets in. Marie returns to the Christmas tree to check up on The Nutcracker, when all of a sudden Drosselmeyer appears and makes the whole room come alive. The Nutcracker, the toy soldiers, the mice, and the Mouse King all come alive, and a battle ensues. The first battle isn't very successful for The Nutcracker and his, but Marie intervenes and the mice run away. They set off on a magical boat ride through the wonderland, but right before they can reach their destination, the Mouse King and his mouse army attacks again. This time The Nutcracker is victorious. Everyone starts celebrating, and then just as suddenly as it began, the dream ended. Marie wakes up, and realized it was only a dream. She holds The Nutcracker toy firmly in her hands. This version of The Nutcracker has become world famous and loved by people of all ages. Experience this magical ballet by buying official tickets on our website.
